A Laugh is a Smile that Bursts

Good morning! I hope you're having a great Sunday! It's dreary and rainy here in Phoenix... a perfect day for crafting! I used Jen's latest Sketch For You To Try for my layout, and all of my papers (except my card base and my main image/sentiment circle) are from Zoe Pearn's So Sweet digital kit.

My image and sentiment are from JustRite's Friendship Borders and Centers Round 3 1/4". I added some color with my Copic markers and added a few pearls to the centers of the flowers. I omitted the embellishment (symbolized as the heart on the sketch above) and instead added ribbon, tied a bow and a Prima rose to the center of the bow. Finally, I added stitching all around each panel.

Note: I personally adore all of Zoe's designs for My Mind's Eye and her digital kits at Sweet Shoppe Designs. Do you want to know the best thing about this So Sweet kit? It is absolutely FREE ~ yep, you read that right! All you have to do is sign up for Zoe's newsletter here just like I did and the kit is yours!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

You Always Keep Me in Stitches

Good morning! Happy Friday! Today I used the square Mojo Monday sketch #127 and Color Throwdown #81 (Brown, Pink/White, Olive). I used the JustRite Stitched with Love set. It is one of their new February releases, and I was fortunate enough to win a gift certificate from them. This set was at the top of my list! First I stamped and colored the flower twice, cut one out and popped it on top of the other. The sentiment border reads "I Love Being Your Friend Because... You Always Keep Me in Stitches!". Isn't that sweet?!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Pink Cat Studio Release Day!!

Good morning! Today Pink Cat Studio is releasing new rubber stamps and Stacy has these in her store now: Lily Bee, Lily Butterfly, and Lily Ladybug!!! They are the cutest spring Lily's! Everytime Sabrina sees a Lily image, she calls her "Sabrina"!

I chose to work with Lily Butterfly today. I used Mercy's sketch, MTSC62, for my layout. I stamped and colored my Lily with Copic markers and Prismacolor pencils/odorless mineral spirits. Then, I added some Icicle Stickles to her wings. I seem to be on a felt kick these days, so imagine how happy I was to find this felt butterfly ribbon at Michael's the other day! I knew it would go perfectly with this image. I finished off my cad with some stitching and one of two sentiments that comes with this image. Isnt this one sweet? It reads "Sending You Butterfly Kisses".

Be sure to visit Stacy to see her Lily creation... I'm sure it is pure cuteness!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Plant a Little Love and Watch a Miracle Grow

Hello! Happy Sunday! My card for today combines 3 challenges (a record for me!!).. First I sat down to work on JUGS21, a color inspiration challenge hosted by Maria. Boy was it was tough!! The colors I used are Raspberry Fizz, Dark Chocolate, Berry Sorbet and Vanilla Cream. After spending some time searching through my designer paper, I finally gave up and decided to just use cardstock and color block. The layout is Karen's Sweet Sunday Sketch #57, which I though would work well with the colors. And last but not least, I wanted to play along in the JustRite Friday Challenge 006: Beautiful Botanics.

I layered my blocks of color, ran the entire panel through my Cuttlebug using the Birds & Swirls embossing folder, the I added some stitching. For my main image, I used one of the flowers from Plant a Little Love Borders & Centers. I colored it with my Copic markers and popped it on top of the center, which reads "Plant a Little Love and Watch a Miracle Grow". I colored a couple of tiny pearls with my R30 Copic marker and added it to the border as well.

Thanks SO much for stopping by!!

Simple Hello

Stacy and I walked around both Hobby Lobby and Joann's yesterday to get our creative juices flowing, and we both bought some felt. We'll get together sometime soon and try to make some felt embellishments. In the meantime, I cut a couple out wth my Blossom Nestabilities and made a simple layered flower which I used as my focal point/image.

Thanks SO much for stopping by! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

TESC Sketch 100 Celebration

Good morning! Can you believe that it's already time for the 100th Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge?! Taylor has created a fabulous sketch for the celebration, so I just had to play along and give my Cuppie stamps a little love!

I made this Cuppie Get Well card for one of Sabrina's teachers who had the misfortune of coming down with the chicken pox last week. I gave my best shot at the shabby chic/vintage look once again. I colored one of the Cuppies from Doctor's Orders with Copic markers and did some paper-piecing as well. I completed the look with a little distress ink, lace, pearls and lots of stitching. We hope you feel better SOON, Cindy!!

Thanks SO much for stopping by!

TSC Wednesday... Anything Goes

Hello! For TSC {The Scrapbooking Cottage} Wednesday, Stacy and I decided to take it easy and not have a particular theme or product feature. So today, anything goes!

I haven't been good about keeping up on my 2010 Christmas card stash (yes, I know it's only February, but still...), so this week I made it a priority to play along in Sparkle's Christmas Card Challenge Week #11. Week 10 was to use the colors blue and red, so I decided to incorporate those colors as well. This week's challenge is a sketch challenge, which I followed loosely. I'm also playing along with JUGS20, hosted by Lisa. It is a technique challenge to use the Split Negative technique. I used Lori's tutorial HERE. The effect is really pretty cool.

I didn't want to take the focus away from my split image, so I omitted a narrow panel and the embellishment from the sketch. I embossed the poinsettia twice, once with white embossing powder onto Pure Poppy and next with red embossing powder onto white. I cut both images in half and joined the 2 to complete the technique. That means I ended up with 2 cards! I simply finished the poinsettia off with a white pearl.

Thanks SO much for stopping by!

Supplies ~
Stamps: Peaceful Poinsettia, Signature Christmas (Papertrey Ink)
Paper: Pure Poppy (Papertrey Ink), Classic Crest Solar White (Neenah), Tis the Season (Bo Bunny)
Ink: Versamark Watermark (Tsukineko), Pure Poppy (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories: Labels Twelve Nestabilities (Spellbinders), Snowflakes embossing folder (Provo Craft), Pearl (Queen & Co), Embossing powder, Foam tape, Thread, Sewing machine.

I used the 25 pt font from the Brayton Uppercase Font Set to spell out Happy Birthday and also embossed it in gold. I used Karen's Sweet Sunday Sketch #56 for my layout.

Here's a detail shot:

Verve Project Parade and Belated Valentine's Wishes

Hello! I hope you all had a great Valentine's weekend! I had planned on spending it crafting and finishing some last minute Valentine's gifts, but I ended up with a nasty cold that knocked me out for a couple of days. Thanks to Nyquil, I had a restful night and felt better this morning. I decided to get right to work for a belated Valentine's gift for DH from me and Sabrina.

I pulled out a chipboard heart box that I had bought last year to alter (I had taken it out of the bag last year, so I'm not sure where it came from - if memory serves me right, I think it's from Maya Road). I covered the top and bottom with patterned paper from MME Be Loved. The sides of the lid are aquamarine fine glitter. This project is for Verve's January 2010 Project Parade: Tags Tins and Treats and my colors were inspired by both Julee's inspiration photo and this week's Color Throwdown #79 (see below).

I filled it with one of Dan's favorite candies, Nestle Crunch, which for Valentine's Day was available in heart shapes. There are exactly 100 candies in the box, which goes along with the tag that I attached (see detail shot below). The sentiment is from Verve's Hundred Hearts and the tiny rows of hearts are from Thankful Hearts. I cut the tag out from Labels Eleven Nestabilities.

Thanks SO much for stopping by!

Stamps: Hundred Hearts, Thankful Hearts (Verve)
Paper: Vintage Cream CS (Papertrey Ink), Be Loved (My Mind's Eye)

Accessories: Labels Eleven Nestabilities (Spellbinders), Aquamarine fine glitter (Martha Stewart), Ribbon, Button, Twine (Papertrey Ink); Red line tape, Zip Dry, Eyelet, Chipboard heart box (Maya Road?).

With Sympathy

Good morning! I just browsed through my latest posts and have noticed a little trend... I seem to be piling more things onto my cards lately. I'm not sure if my style is evolving or if I'm just trying something new... I guess I'm just doing what suits my mood.

Today I went clean and simple today. My card is for Shannan, who unexpectedly lost her husband early last week. I've never met her in person, but I had the privilege of meeting her online during my stint as a Verve guest designer last year. She has always been so sweet and encouraging to me. Please say a little prayer for her and her two young boys as they are just heartbroken from this tragic loss.

I chose a soothing print from the Memory Box Gossamer collection and added a handmade flower over two smaller ones. I die cut several layers and sizes flowers out of natural mulberry using my Spellbinders Blossom Two die. I lightly sponged them with Lavender Moon ink, then I scrunched and layered them to create my flower. I was inspired by Mona's wonderful 3-D flower tutorial HERE (she used tissue paper, but it's the same concept). I stamped a sentiment from Verve's Forever in Our Hearts, added some stitching and used some foam tape to pop the panel up on my card base.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend... I know that I will giving my loved ones an extra hug today..

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Supplies ~
Stamps: Forever in Our Hearts (Verve)
Paper: Lavender Moon, Kraft CS (Papertrey Ink); Gossamer (Memory Box), Natural Mulberry (Pulsar)
Ink: Lavender Moon, Dark Chocolate (Papertrey Ink); Versamagic Wheat (Tsukineko)

Happy Valentine's Day SFYTT

Good morning! Just 2 more sleeps and it will be Valentine's Day!! I have a brand new digital paper pack to play with and here is my first project using it! The ever so talented and sweet Melissa Esplin sent me a kit of her new pretty papers to play with, and I was thrilled with all of the patterns! I used just one of them on my card today, but I printed more to play with very soon! The kit I used is called The Love Song and is available at Design House Digital. There are 8 gorgeous patterns in the kit. You can check out all of her designs here, plus she also has a freebie kit for you to try out called Classy Cupid.

I used Jen's latest Sketch For You To Try for my layout. After printing my patterned paper, I double matted it and added a couple of rows of stitching. For my main image, I heat embossed both the heart scroll frame and the sentiment, Happy Valentine's Day. Both are from Verve's Heart's Desire. I loved the circular elements on the sketch (see below for a look), but I didn't want to cover up too much of the patterned paper, so I chose rhinestone circles which left more open space.

Thanks SO much for stopping by!

Supplies ~
Stamps: Heart's Desire (Verve)
Paper: Sorbet (CTMH), Select White, Sweet Blush CS (Papertrey Ink); The Love Song by Melissa Esplin (Design House Digital)
Ink: Versamark watermark (Tsukineko)

Teacher Valentine's Gifts

Hello! Just a few more days until Valentine's Day, and I think I'm going to need them.. Sabrina has a couple of school parties this week, so I made a few of these heart photo frames for her to give to her teachers and para aides for Valentine's Day this year. I took an unfinished wood frame, painted the back and sides, and covered the front with paper from Jen Allyson's So Sweet Mini Kit. I printed my paper and adhered it to each frame with Zip Dry paper glue. I finished off the frame very simply, just adding ribbon and a Winnie the Pooh quote from Verve's Hundred Hearts. It reads, "Keep me in your heart, I'll stay there forever." I stamped the quote, die cut with Labels Five Nestabilities and sponged the edges I added a mini Prima rose on the label and a few Robin's Nest Dew Drops in the center of a few candies {in the upper left} as a final touch.

The project was very quick and easy to do and very economical! The frames were just $1 at Michael's and the digital page kit is part of Design House Digital's $1 Days in February. The rest of the supplies came from my stash. I left the original cardboard heart inside the frame so that each recipient can use it as a template to cut out and add their favorite photo.

Of course, I had to make a matching card as well. I used CPS Sketch #153 for my layout. The XOXO is from Papertrey Ink's Heart Prints. The background paper is glitter paper and the chipboard heart is one that I added some fine glitter to for some additional bling.

Thanks SO much for stopping by!

TSC Wednesday... Love

Good morning! Since it's our last TSC {The Scrapbooking Cottage} Wednesday post before February 14, Stacy and I are featuring Valentine's Day today. I stamped Lockhart Mailbox of Love and colored it with Copic markers and my Lipstick Spica glitter pen. Then I cut it out and popped it up on my circle which I sponged lightly with Smokey Shadow ink. For my sentiment, I stamped Lockhart Love with Versamark watermark ink, sprinkled on some platinum embossing powder and heat set it.

For my layout, I used Tracey's fun sketch (love all the circles!), JUGS19. Be sure to check out all of the wonderful creations on the Just Us Girls blog here. On the 3 thin strips, I added a strip of Scor-tape to each and sprinkled on some fine glitter! I added some stitching to the bottom of the card and around the largest circle for a finishing touch.

Thanks SO much for stopping by!

Supplies ~
Stamps: Mailbox of Love, Love (Lockhart)
Paper: Hibiscus Burst, Select White, Smokey Shadow CS (Papertrey Ink); Sugar Rush (Basic Grey)

so glad we're friends

Hello! Each month I look forward to the 14th to see all the new Papertrey goodies! This month is no exception as it is their 3rd anniversary celebration and it's sure to be bigger and better than ever! My card uses Nichole's Day 8 "paint" by number sketch challenge. In addition, there is a color palette depending on each of our PTI online username. Since I'm "sikraft", that means my color palette falls into the N-S category. {See below for sketch and color palette.}
I started with a Scarlet Jewel card base. Next, I used Background Basics: Petal Power and heat embossed it onto Kraft cardstock. I stamped some silhouette flowers from Life onto Sweet Blush, stamped "so glad we're" from Friends 'Til the End with Smokey Shadow ink and rounded 2 of the corners to soften the edges. I then stitched it on top of the Kraft panel. I dry embossed a scalloped strip of Smokey Shadow with Swiss Dots before adding it as another layer. The final layer is Vintage Cream saddle stitch ribbon, tied with a bow and embellished with a twine tied button. To finish off my sentiment, I stamped "friends", die cut it with the middle-sized tag from the Spellbinders Tags Trio and sponged the edges.

Thanks SO much for stopping by!

Stamps: Background Basics: Petal Power, Friends 'Til the End, Life (Papertrey Ink)

JustRite Crafty Calendar

Good morning! The JustRite challenge for this week is Crafty Calendars. I chose to make a Valentine's Day card with a calendar on it {hopefully that's ok}. I downloaded Sharon's fabulous 2010 3-inch calendar HERE {thanks, Sharon!}. I don't have the JustRite Calendar set yet, so I used the Brayton Uppercase Font Set and spelled out February 2010 (with the 25 pt font) onto the small stamper from the Horizontal Wood Stamper Set. I cut it out with Labels Eight Nestabilities, sponged it with Versamagic Wheat, then I circled day 14 with my Lipstick Spica glitter pen.

I flipped Taylored Expressions Sketch #99 for my layout. I was first going for a shabby vintage look, which is a style that I adore, but I don't seem to do well. I added some fine glitter to a chipboard heart, stitched around, added some silk ribbon and a few rhinestones.

Thanks SO much for stopping by!

Supplies ~
Stamps: Brayton Uppercase Font Set, Horizontal Wood Stamper Set (JustRite)
Paper: Pure Poppy, Vintage Cream CS (Papertrey Ink); Webster's Pages

I stamped, colored, cut and popped the cupcake on top. It's hard to see the detail, but I added some bling to the frosting with my Spica clear glitter pen and some fine glitter to the heart topper.

Thanks SO much for stopping by!

Mojo Thinking of You

Good morning! I seem to be in need of "just because" or "thinking of you" cards lately, so I decided to make one for my stash. I used Julee's Mojo Monday #124 and the colors are from Color Throwdown #78. See below for a peek at the sketch and color combo:

The "Thinking of You" is from Verve's Accent Notes. I've been really into printing my own patterned paper lately. The background is from Melissa Esplin's Classy Cupid mini kit (which is free right now) and the aqua polka dot is from Jen Allyson's Design 365 January kit. Both are from Design House Digital. I asked DH if I should add some pearls and he said no (after barely glancing at it)... so, I took his advice and left them off.. :)

Thanks SO much for stopping by! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Stamps: Accent Notes (Verve)
Paper: Aqua Mist, Kraft, Select White, Sweet Blush CS (Papertrey Ink); Classy Cupid mini kit by Melissa Esplin, Design 365 January kit by Jen Allyson (Design House Digital)

JUGS Pennant Banner

Edit: Sorry if any of you got double notification on this post -- the formatting on the individual letter photos really bugged me, so I had to edit and fix!!
Hello! I'm back with another project today.. another non-card believe it or not! I am playing along with JUGS18, a Wild Card Challenge to create a pennant banner.  I used this wonderful tutorial on SCS by Jenn Balcer - click HERE to see the tutorial. I've been wanting to make one of these for awhile now, so this challenge was just what I needed to get me to do it! I made this for Sabrina's room (this is probably one of the few times that I wish I had named her something like "Mo" ~ hee hee, not really!)...

Note: I'm sorry this isn't the best photo! I don't have a mantle to display it on and every shelf I tried had too much clutter in the background. I haven't figured out hot exactly I want to display it in Sabrina's room yet, so I put it on my closet door to take this photo! I also took close ups of each letter (see below).

I wanted it to match the colors in her room (some yellow and lots of pink/green), so I printed my papers from Zoe Pearn's Summer Sorbet, available at Sweet Shoppe Designs. I just adore her designs as well as Jen Allyson's. These two incredibly talented designers teamed together to create the highly anticipated My Mind's Eye release of Quite Contrary... I can't wait for those!!

Back to my project... I first created 2 triangular templates using the dimensions in Jenn's tutorial. I then printed all of my papers and cut them out with the templates. After matting each triangle, I stitched around each one. Next I attached them to my ribbon using my Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher (I LOVE this!!). I added a strip of paper (punched with scallops) on top to cover the staples.

I pulled out some Bare Elements chipboard from my scrapbook stash, painted them white and attached them to Blossom die cut flowers. Each was embellished simply with a few crystals. Each "blossom" was then popped onto each triangle with foam boosters. I followed Mona's lead since I didn't want the backside to look messy, I finished of the back of each triangle with white cardstock. Finally, I tied 8 ribbon bows and attached them with my hot glue gun. I resisted the urge to add more embellishments as I didn't want to cover up the beautiful patterned paper.

JustRite Valentine Love

Good morning! My project is for JustRite Friday Challenge 003: Valentine Love. While at Michael's earlier this week, I found some unfinished wood heart frames for $1. I picked up several as I thought they would make great Valentine's gifts for Sabrina's teachers. I decided to try making one first -- this one is for my DD, Sabrina!!

First, I painted the entire frame (front, back, sides) with white paint. Next, I covered the front with patterned paper from Design House Digital. This one is from Jen Allyson's Smitten Sugar paper kit. I stamped the sentiment "You Fill my Heart with Love" from JustRite's Loving Thoughts Centers and used some nested circle punches to mat it. I used the 2" wood stamper with Times New Roman 15 pt font to personalize the rest, then I used my circle Nestabilities to die cut the larger and scalloped circles. I used foam boosters to pop up a few of the circles and added it over some ribbon to simply finish off the frame. Finally, I added a photo of the two of us from this past Christmas.

Thanks SO much for stopping by!

TSC Wednesday... and Happy Birthday, Evie!

Hello friends! Before I get to my card, I just want to wish my niece, Evie, a VERY Happy Birthday!!

Welcome to TSC {The Scrapbooking Cottage} Wednesday! Stacy and I are featuring the Imaginisce Lucy Bird line today. This is my attempt at clean and simple! I used a strip of patterned paper from the Lucy Bird paper collection. The chipboard frame is a Chickadee Chipboard sticker onto which I simply stamped Sweet Thing (Snag 'em Stamps).

Personal note: Today would have also been our dear sweet friend, Toni's, 70th birthday, but she lost her battle with ALS on Saturday. I had the privilege of meeting both her and Stacy about 5 years ago when I joined CTMH. I am no longer a CTMH consultant, but I made lasting friendships that I will always cherish. I miss you and love you, Toni, and think of you often, especially whenever I hear Toby Keith's "Cryin' For Me".

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Blessings

Hello! This is my submission for My Favorite Things February 2010 Guest Designer contest. The challenge is to THINK SPRING! I also used Card Positioning Systems sketch #152.

I pulled out the first things that instantly made me think of spring! First, it was My Basket of Eggs, which is part of the MFT Pure Innocence line (it looks like this set is currently out of stock, which is not uncommon with this line -- it is full of adorable images!). I paired it her some October Afternoon Farm Fresh patterned paper (floral and gingham, which I used to paper-piece her dress).

Thanks so much for stopping by!

hugs & kisses

Good morning! I hope you had a great weekend! I spent part of mine cleaning up my stamp room and setting up my light tent in another area where I can leave it out all the time. I am far from a "neat freak", but I do work better when my room has been reorganized. Once I finished, I was ready to stamp, so I pulled out my Cristabell image from Whipper Snapper, inked her up and colored her. While I was assembling the rest of my card, Sabrina came in and when she saw the image she said, "sheep card - Auntie Mary", and she was right! She knows her Auntie loves them!

I paper-pieced the heart balloon with the same patterned paper I used (from K & Company Lovely). The sentiment reads "hugs & kisses" along the bottom of the card and is from Papertrey Ink's, Simple Valentine. The three rectangular panels were border punched with mini scalloped hearts.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
